Photographer's Notes:

Deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina along State Route 215 just outside of Waynesville is Lake Logan which hosts beautiful cottages along her shores.  I was on assignment for another photography shoot when I spotted the old pier along the lake.

I loved how it stood out against the low lapping waves while dawning a small patch of wildflowers on its submerged broken portion.  The other part that drew me to Lake Logan originally was the history of the logging town of Sunburst which was now submerged under the lake.  

Sunburst was a thriving logging town at the turned of the 20th century, but its success gave rise to minorities of the early 1900's.  African American families could find gainful employment at Sunburst, unlike other employers of the time.  Even some of those families were able to save enough money from their work to start their own businesses in neighboring Canton and Waynesville. 

That is why I named this image, "Flooded Memory" in dedication to those families who were able to rise above the discrimination of the era and build their American Dreams.
