Sometimes the most beautiful photographs are the ones you never planned to take.
One morning, my son Brandon and I set out long before sunrise, driving deep into the Great Smoky Mountains with one goal in mind, to photograph the first light spilling across the mountain peaks. We were filled with anticipation, convinced we were about to witness one of those unforgettable Smoky Mountain sunrises.
But God had a different plan.
As we climbed higher into the mountains, the sunrise disappeared behind a blanket of clouds and thick fog. At first, it was easy to feel disappointed. The scene we'd imagined simply wasn't going to happen.
Then I looked through my lens.
Instead of golden light, I saw layers of ancient evergreens slowly disappearing into waves of mist. The fog drifted silently through the mountains, revealing and concealing the landscape with every passing second. It was peaceful, mysterious, and unlike anything I had expected.
In that moment, I realized I wasn't missing the shot I'd hoped for. I was being given a better one.
That morning became Shrouded Majesty, a reminder that God's greatest gifts often arrive in ways we never anticipate. Sometimes He changes our plans, not to disappoint us, but to show us something even more extraordinary.
Every time I look at this photograph, I'm reminded to trust His direction, because His vision is always greater than my own.
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways," declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:8
Have you ever had God change your plans, only to discover His plan was even better?
