I spent hours searching for bears, elk, and owls... but this little rabbit stole the entire day.
That's one of the things I love most about wildlife photography. You can head into Great Smoky Mountains National Park with a plan, only to discover that God has something completely different waiting for you.
I had set out hoping to photograph some of the park's larger wildlife. As the morning passed, my camera stayed mostly quiet. Then, tucked among the grasses, I noticed this Eastern cottontail sitting perfectly still, watching the world around it.
For several minutes, we shared the moment. It never seemed alarmed, and I never felt the need to rush. Sometimes the smallest creatures remind us of the greatest lessons. Slow down. Be patient. Appreciate the beauty that's right in front of you.
That unexpected encounter became one of my favorite memories from the Smokies. It reminded me that nature isn't only about the dramatic moments. Often, it's the quiet ones that stay with us the longest.
