Photographer's Journal (October 30, 2022):
As I drove down the dark foggy Saluda grade on Interstate 26 in Western North Carolina, I wondered if we would be able to capture any images worth our time. My fellow photographer and friend Alan Taylor were on our way to photograph several waterfalls hoping the mist would lift, giving way to an overcast day which is perfect lighting for cascades in the autumn.
As we traveled deeper into South Carolina, Alan said to me, "Wait until you see this beautiful chapel up on the hill at Camp McCall, were I went as a kid." When we came around the bend, he pointed up to share the beautiful view of the little open-air chapel nestled away in the fall foliage reflecting perfectly on the lake below. I immediately said, "Where is the parking lot, we're going to see if we can take a few photos."
Gracefully enough, the staff on hand at the camp granted us access to photograph the chapel. As we walked to the docks with our cameras in hand, Alan shared his boyhood stories of warm summer adventures of swimming, archery, and hiking at the camp. But what truly impressed me was how he recalled the camp counselors' drive to share the word of God with them each night after dinner at the chapel.
So in an effort to continue that tradition, I will donate all the proceeds from each sale of this piece to Camp McCall so they can continue to help young men and women find the Lord and live a life blessed in His name.
