Watch Out Below! Bombs Away

Want to hear a funny story? Earlier this year when I was in Charleston, South Carolina I made a special trip to the Shem Creek bird sanctuary. Across the creek from the weeds and mud flats of the sanctuary is a small harbor of commercial fishing boats where pelicans and other birds of opportunity will congregate looking for an easy meal tossed away by the fishermen.

That is where I found this proud brown pelican perched a top of one of the fishing vessels docked in the harbor. Below him was the deck of his new claimed ship, and a crew member preparing for the next day of fishing.

So I quickly raised my lens to capture him perched proudly against the cold February Atlantic sky just before he spread his wings to take flight, but not before relieving himself all over the poor deck hand below...

Followed by the angered tones of “God **** ******* pelicans!” echoing down the creek for all to hear.
